A firefighter can live across the state line. Protection is catching up

A firefighter can commute from a neighboring state, but getting medical paperwork across the border is more complicated. As Marijuana Moment reported on 5 November, Maryland is developing patient registration for firefighters and rescue workers employed in the state who live elsewhere. Since 1 October, a law has protected these workers from dismissal and other discrimination related to medical cannabis when its conditions are met, including a valid medical certification; a positive test alone is not the same as impairment on duty. However, guidance dated 14 October says the registration process for out-of-state workers is still being developed, and certification from a provider in another state does not qualify. The law does not permit working while impaired.
