The ageing brain reminds us that cannabinoids are also an internal system
A new review in Nature Reviews Neuroscience examines how age-related changes in the endocannabinoid system may be linked to decline in particular cognitive functions. The author brings together genetic and pharmacological evidence from mice and humans, but does not offer a rejuvenation recipe: the paper maps mechanisms and possible targets, while clinical evidence for a claim such as ‘cannabis against ageing’ is still absent. The body has long kept its own cannabinoid accounts; the marketing department has arrived after the science again.
