Canada's legal market turns eight

Canada legalized adult-use cannabis on 17 October 2018 and now marks eight years with accounting rather than slogans. Legal sales reached C$5.5 billion in fiscal 2024/25, up 6.1% year over year, while government revenue reached C$2.5 billion, up 11.5%. At the end of 2025 there were 3,295 retail businesses with employees, and 51.4% had only one to four workers: the promised apocalypse did not arrive, but very detailed spreadsheets did.
