Spain brings medical cannabis to the hospital pharmacy

The first standardized preparations are expected to begin reaching Spanish hospitals in the week after 19 October, a year after the decree that opened this route. Access is limited to four groups of conditions and hospital pharmacies; a specialist must confirm that other options have failed. Spain’s medicines agency AEMPS confirms that registered preparations may be used in individualized pharmacy formulations, while the launch in about 50 centres remains supplier Curaleaf’s plan. The bureaucratic marathon has reached the hospital door, but the patient queue is only beginning to move.
