Mendocino brings cannabis out of the fog and into a museum case

The Mendocino County Museum is showing Behind the Redwood Curtain, created with the Cannabis Culture Museum, farmers and local residents. Personal memories and objects trace how a hidden part of Northern California life moved from 1970s counterculture to legalisation in 2016; after the exhibition closes on 28 November, it will tour. Museums usually preserve a past after it has ended, but these exhibits can still argue with visitors at the neighbouring checkout.
