From the field

Chickens accepted five percent hemp waste and rejected generosity

In a 42-day trial, 200 broilers received feed containing 0%, 5%, 10% or 20% spent hemp biomass left after CBD extraction. A 5% inclusion produced no clear adverse effects, but from 10% the birds gained less weight and produced less breast meat. At 20%, meat was tougher and feather corticosterone increased, which may indicate chronic stress; the result supports only low inclusion levels and does not mean regulators have approved the feed.
