The ageing brain leaves cannabinoids with many questions
A review in Nature Reviews Neuroscience examines the endocannabinoid system as one of the networks that supports neuronal function, metabolism and inflammatory control. Its activity declines with age; in animal studies, disrupting the system impaired neurogenesis, synaptic plasticity, memory and other processes, while low-dose THC alleviated some age-related changes. Clinical evidence in older people remains limited, so these findings do not yet amount to a treatment.
