Market and regulation

America's hemp industry counts down to 0.4 milligrams

A US federal restriction on hemp-derived THC products was postponed from 12 November to 11 December, giving businesses another month to argue for regulation instead of a ban. A limit of 0.4 mg of THC per container could remove intoxicating drinks and sweets and some ordinary CBD products from interstate commerce; an industry estimate puts 28.3 billion dollars in retail revenue and 225,000 jobs at risk. For small factory owner Nicholas Hohns, the congressional argument is simpler: after four years of 100-hour weeks, he may lose the business and look for work again.
