A wage board may be removed from a law just signed

New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a law on 28 October repealing mandatory labor-peace agreements with unions as a condition of cannabis business licensing. Such agreements generally require employers not to interfere with union organising and unions not to disrupt business operations. The signed text also provides for a board to recommend minimum hourly wages for industry workers, but Hochul reached an agreement with lawmakers to pursue its removal in the next legislative session. Those provisions are scheduled to take effect on 31 January 2027: until amendments pass, an agreement to delete them is not the same as their removal from the law.
