Your salary will arrive with the investment. The investment never came

New Zealand cannabis startup Kāriki Pharma had shares, plans and a technical director who went unpaid for more than two years. Alexis López kept working while waiting for investment; for three months, he even accepted shares instead of wages. In its 23 October ruling, the Employment Court put those months back into the calculation: shares cannot replace wages. The company was ordered to pay about NZ$220,000 in wage arrears plus holiday pay, less amounts already paid under a settlement. If the company, now in liquidation, cannot pay, López may recover those amounts personally from two directors.
