Cannabis and the heart: frequency did not explain the whole picture

The data did not form a neat staircase of “more often, worse outcomes.” The analysis included telephone responses from 442,906 adults in the United States, collected in 2020–2024. People who reported cannabis use on 1–5 days in the previous month had 40% higher odds of reporting a history of stroke than those reporting no use in that month; for the 16–30-day group, the difference was 25%. That does not make frequent use protective: people may have cut back after a diagnosis, and this kind of survey cannot establish cause and effect. The American Heart Association described the work on 2 November ahead of its 6–9 November meeting – the conference abstract is preliminary and has not been peer-reviewed.
