Two Mississippi employees face losing their jobs over old convictions

Nicole Huff, head of Wildflower Medical Dispensary in Mississippi, is trying to keep two employees with past convictions in their jobs: she says both have worked successfully for more than a year. In correspondence reviewed by Marijuana Moment, the US Drug Enforcement Administration offered her the options of seeking an employment waiver while giving up expedited business registration, withdrawing the application or proceeding to an administrative hearing. Senator Cory Booker criticised the practice; in Huff’s updated account, the agency also allows temporary moves to jobs without access to cannabis, but gives no timeline for deciding the waiver. Firing is not the only option, yet the uncertainty for workers and their employer remains.
